After a decade in the fitness industry, women brand new to exercise are still my favorite people to teach. As women, our health and well-being often take a backseat to the needs of our families and even our jobs. Carving out regular time in our days for exercise can be challenging.
When a woman comes to me, either as a private client or as a member, I take the trust they place in me very seriously. First, I know how hard that first step can be, especially if someone has had a negative experience trying to start exercising in the past. I want them to feel safe and comfortable. Second, I know their time is precious, and I don’t want to waste a second.
More often than not, there are two reasons female exercise newbies come to see me. First, they have been told by a healthcare provider that they need to start exercising for their health, or they are coming to me from recent physical therapy because of an injury or chronic pain. Usually, they are not excited about being there and don’t want to exercise; however, they know (deep down, maybe) that they need it, and that’s what sets them apart from millions of people who do not make that the step to start exercising.
The second reason is privacy. Going into a gym or studio can be an extremely overwhelming experience. I have experienced it myself when I travel or every time I move and I have to find a new instructor. If you are brand new to fitness, this experience could be downright debilitating and keep you from moving forward in your exercise journey. Since I am a private instructor who also offers on-demand classes from the comfort of your own home, I am ideally suited to help.
I love being a part of the experience when someone goes from feeling overwhelmed, nervous, and even scared to empowered, excited, and ready to tackle each workout. Exercise doesn’t have to be brutal. It doesn’t have to feel like punishment or something to dread. You don’t have to feel overwhelmed or embarrassed. My goal is to empower, especially my newbies, with exercise. To show them what they are capable of achieving and how strong they are, both physically and mentally.
Once you experience that feeling, your commitment to exercise will come naturally. You will go from dreading exercise to looking forward to your workouts. As an instructor, there is no more incredible feeling than seeing that change in a client who has been doing the work. To see a client go from hating exercise to loving exercise (chef’s kiss). Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t happen overnight, but when it does happen, it makes it all worth it.
My ultimate goal is to get more people doing Pilates. That’s why I started my online membership, and that’s why I continue to talk about the fantastic benefits of Pilates.
Pilates is a fantastic way to start your exercise journey as a woman who is brand new to exercise.
- Pilates meets you where you are, so even as you progress from total newbie to seasoned pro, the work will continue to challenge you. This means you will continue to see results.
- As women, we have many demands on our time, which can make fitting in a workout challenging. Pilates is super efficient, so you don’t have to spend much time getting an effective workout. In, out, done, and on with the rest of your day!
- Pilates is low impact; low impact does not mean easy it just means that it doesn’t put excessive pressure on your body. So even if you are injured or have a specific medical condition, Pilates can still work for you. How great is that?
If this sounds good to you…..
Before scheduling your first private session, we will have had a detailed discussion about your goals and particular needs. (I also offer this service to anyone interested in joining my online membership). You can schedule your initial consultation HERE. I need to know why you are coming to see me in a private one-on-one setting or as a member taking on-demand classes. That way, I can tailor your session specifically to your needs. If you are joining my membership, I can help you utilize your membership in the best way possible by suggesting specific classes and series.
Before you know it, you will be well on your way to making exercise a priority and something you will look forward to each week! I can’t wait for you to experience that feeling, so don’t wait another day.
