I don’t know about you, but I don’t always have time for a full-hour workout. I also want to say that 1 hour of working out is an arbitrary amount of time to work out. I used to actually skip a workout entirely if I couldn’t devote an entire hour. That is &$#@ing insane, and looking back at that time of my life, I absolutely would have benefited from 20-30 minutes of movement because some movement is ALWAYS better than no movement.
Since I know that many of you are just like me, busy AF people who want to work out, but it needs to fit into your schedule and help you meet your goals; this is the formula I use when I program and teach highly effective classes in 30 minutes or less:
First, Pilates is an intelligent movement system by design and doesn’t require many repetitions to be effective! Why do multiple sets of 10 reps when one set of 5 will do the trick? Also, Pilates is low impact by nature, but the low impact doesn’t mean low energy or easy; don’t expect to do 50 burpees in my classes to feel worked.
Second, I pick compound exercises that build on one another so you can work efficiently and maximize your time; this also allows you to choose your adventure based on your level and individual needs. You never have to sit an exercise out, and you will always feel challenged.
Lastly, we flow from one exercise to the next, increasing the challenge and efficiency and helping build endurance. You don’t want to waste a second when you only have 20-30 minutes.
My goal is always to leave you stronger, stretched, and empowered in 30 minutes or less while having fun too!
